Five Summer Style Essentials You Need In Your Wardrobe

Summer Essentials: Floral Frock

The mercury is slowly rising across the Northern Hemisphere, whilst those of us closer to the equator are already hot-under our Chanel collars with summer loving. Although borders may be closed and taking to the skies less likely this year, there’s no reason we can’t celebrate the season of ice creams, Tennis and school holidays, wearing our best threads pulled from a wardrobe rather than a suitcase. Let’s face it, any season is all the reason for looking our best, but summer brings those pops of colour with a foot-loose and fancy free feeling we could all do with, this year especially!

The best part is… it’s quite likely you already own one or two of these seasonal staples, because although I mentioned 2021, these 5 summer style essentials are pretty evergreen and can be found in even the most neglected wardrobes, saving you some serious green!

These are no-brainer pieces to own, keep and never purge as a part of your capsule wardrobe, fulfilling all of your sustainable fashion dreams. Killing two stylish birds with one fashion stone – I’ve also thrown in my all-time designer style hack for you in case you missed it, so read to the end for the bargain of the year and hero summer accessory.

Summer Essentials: White Dress

[1] The White Dress

Pretty white dresses are always a sure thing for your Summer style. Whether broderie, denim, linen or otherwise, they’re clean, feminine, easy to pair with accessories and readily available to buy.

I like to wear mine with a straw bag, over-sized sunnies and chunky jewellery.

[2] Shorts

Dress them up – dress them down, these are great piece for styling a day at the office, through to after work drinks outfit. The best part is, shorts have featured heavily on the spring/summer catwalks this year providing you with lots of options to choose from.

I find a paper-bag cut a particularly good style of short to wear for creating curves in all the right places and elongating the torso at the same time.

[3] The Floral Frock

…Sorry I couldn’t help myself. The floral dress is a summer OG spanning generations and continents for this year’s summer style staple. Adding subtle injections of colour and good to go from spring onwards, you can’t get enough of a floral dress or 5.

You might have noticed, I’m a big fan – H&M are always stocked with these in throughout the summer months and are at great value! I picked up this short sunflower number from there.

[4] A Playsuit

This is one to think about adding if you don’t have already. They’re super flattering for all heights and great for getting in some leg-tan time on your commute around the city. There are lots of variations to choose from so dedicate sometime to trying a few on and finding the right one for you.

I love wearing my polka dot playsuit at the pool and even with a pair of heels and a cute clutch for dressing up.

Summer Style Essentials: Summer Hat

[5] The Summer Hat

Frame your face and hide a bad hair day for a double style saver with a summer straw hat. Just like my Gucci Hat Trick for the winter, the same can be replicated for your summer look for giving it that designer edge.

As seen on my high street straw trilby – The Gucci headband! (Shhh, it’s our secret)

And that’s a wrap! Hmmm should I have included a day-to-night wrap in this feature? I’ll save that for another time. Show me how you style your summer staples by tagging @kellylundbergofficial and let me know if you think I missed anything.
